      <image:title>My Approach - Compassion-focused Therapy</image:title>
      <image:caption>Life transitions, anxiety, grief and trauma are all common reasons we seek counseling services. Part of these experiences require us to grapple with difficult events and feelings. Unfortunately, our society does not know how to have a relationship with difficult feelings. Many of us have been taught at a young age that feeling sad, guilty, scared or nervous is time wasted and emotions that we should shut down or avoid. Not only is this untrue, but pushing our feelings and judging our feelings can cause a form of anguish that blocks us in our healing journey. However, when we are able to welcome our challenging feelings with open arms, our uncomfortable feelings take a different shape. Through this practice, we can learn what our feelings are teaching us, befriend them, and utilize them on our path of growth and wellbeing. Weaving self-compassion into a therapeutic setting can make room for you to practice self-love and self-acceptance. We may practice mindfulness exercises together in order to anchor in to a self-compassionate space. We may try and better understand the stories you are telling yourself in a way that feels calming, true to your experience and kind toward yourself.</image:caption>

Additionally, I was a counselor at Portland State University’s Community Counseling Clinic for individual adults and was a psychotherapist at Portland Mental Health and Wellness for children and adults. My education includes a Bachelors in Journalism from University of Oregon and a Masters in Counselor Education from Portland State University.       <image:caption>Appointments will be 55 minutes, and are typically scheduled once per week. Sessions may be more or less frequent depending on what would benefit you most. Sometimes, space from counseling is extremely beneficial. Sometimes, more frequent sessions are necessary in the therapy process.       <image:caption>Individual Therapy and Family Therapy: Initial intake/assessments are 90 minutes; this fee is $190.00. The standard fee for counseling appointments is $170.00/session. These appointments last 55 minutes. A limited number of sliding scale appointments are available for clients who have limited financial need. The lowest session fee available is $90.00. Please speak to me if you have concerns about affording my services. Please note, I am not billing health insurance at this time. However, I may be able to provide a superbill for you to submit through your insurance. Couples Therapy: $130.00/session. There are limited sliding scale slots available starting at $80.00/session. I am currently in-network with Aetna, Cigna and some Optum plans, including United Healthcare. If you would like to use your insurance that is outside of these plans, I can provide a superbill to bill out-of-network. I recommend contacting your health insurance to better understand your out-of-network benefits for psychotherapy.
